Ruined my Mom's day. LOL!
She just got her first phone with the touch id, right? She's all happy because she thinks her phone is now more secure… because if someone steals the phone, they won't be able to just guess the code.
I told her, "Actually, it's LESS secure… anyone who has your fingerprints can now get into your phone"
She's said, "I'm the only person with my fingerprints, don't they teach you anything in school"
I reply, "You and anyone in possession of anything you've ever touched. A motivated thief could lift your fingerprints off of anything you touch
She's like,"How's a phone thief going to get my fingerprint"
I get out my phone and just looked at her and tapped it with my thumb
Then her eyes bugged a bit when she realized… you're pressing your thumb all over the phone all the time. Anyone who steals your phone ALREADY has your thumbprint… often already on the home button itself.
If you like your phone being secure, this ain't the way to do it. LOL. You're better off using the code.
If you want to though… you could use your non-dominant pinky as your fingerprint instead. That's more secure than the thumb
